The Digital Design and Technology Programme, which is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) grows out of and builds on the two major curriculum development projects, CAD/CAM in Schools and the Electronics in Schools Strategy. Over the better part of a decade, these two programmes have provided specialist in-service training in CAD/CAM and electronics for more than 14,000 teachers.  The programme will continue to provide this training, but increasingly move towards offering courses which integrate the use of CAD/CAM and electronics.

The programme, managed by the Design and Technology Association and supported by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, Delcam, PTC, Speed Step aims to develop a coherent support programme for teachers involved with CAD/CAM and ECT which reflects the changing requirements of both the curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and the STEM Agenda.
